The oldest written evidence preserved in ancient Egyptian date from 3200 BC on ceramic vessels. The writing is hieroglyphic, using drawings of animals, people or objects to represent ideas, words and sounds. Writing allowed [[Ancient Egypt |Egypt]] to develop state control over natural resources, mining and on people. Scribes were part of the elite of [[Ancient Egypt|Egypt ]] and held the administrative structure of the state.
The ancient Egyptian is usually classified as follows:
* Late Egyptian A.C between 1700 and 700 B.C.
* Demotic 700 B.C. and 400 B.C. although it lasted in the temples.
* After the arrival of Alexander the Great on the Egyptian Court also use it was used the Greek.
* Coptic up to 600 A.D. is still preserved in the ceremonies of the Coptic Orthodox Christian Church.
