First copper metallurgy appears from 6000 BC in Anatolia, Mesopotamia and the Zagros Mountains, but there are other points where copper metallurgy was independently developed as in the Balkans. From these points the Copper Age was extended and the in 3000 BC it is common in Europe
The Chalcolithic is an evolution of Neolithic, not only by the use of molten copper but because first truly complex societies emerge, appear the first social inequality and high population growth occurs due to the improvement cultivation techniques, of craft products and management of surpluses. Human societies were preparing for the next revolution, the emergence of the first protostates.
In the Iberian Peninsula during the Copper Age stands the settlement of Los Millares, located in the vicinity of Almeria. It is one of the most important sites in Europe in the Copper Age.
